Alex: I'm a pretty little wife.
Michael: You are? Whose wife are you?
Alex (to me): You and me are Papa's wives.
Me: Y HELLO THAR, Electra!
Alex: Y HELLO THAR, Electra! ...Who's Electra?

The inner workings of brains are so fascinating. It's a pity we can't get to experience but one of them.

When Kevin was about that age, he wanted to marry me when he grew up. I pointed out that he didn't have to, because we were already family, and always would be. Marriage meant getting to choose someone else to be in the family too. That seemed to work.

Kids are fascinating.

That's what I explained to Linnea yesterday. "When I am Daddy's age, I will marry you!" Er, no.

Precociously poly, perchance?

ack, apparently your last exchange (minus the "electra" part) can also mean you're propositioning for anal sex (http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=y+helo+thar)?!?!?

My youngest sibling, at about this age, informed our grandmother he was going to marry her when he grew up.

"I'm married to Pa," she pointed out.

"Oh, but he's old!" he replied, "So when I am grownup you will like me more."

In further conversation she tried to explain that she was his Nanny and would always love him but that one day he would find someone he would marry. He seemed to feel like he was being clever in cutting out that step.

"Finding is hard,' said the small boy who spent a lot of time being told go find your shoes right now, "And you are right here!"

I'm dying of cute, both this conversation and the original post.

Which last line begs the response "That's... complex".

Hee! :D

Tamsin's just gotten into role-reversal pretending lately. My favorite is when she tells Hippo "I'll be the Mommy and you be the Daughter." Sometimes we both get to be the daughters, but so far she's never demanded that anyone be her husband. Hmm.

"Wife" is by no means Alex's usual role. It's more often that she's looking for a wife. I have had to explain many many times that I can't marry her because I'm already married to Papa.

In my favorite incident along these lines, after I explained that I couldn't marry her she said plaintively, "But I have to get married - I have a baby growing in my tummy."

*laughs.*

So she has the concept of the "shotgun wedding" down by heart, then? ;)
