rivka: (I love the world)

[livejournal.com profile] mactavish linked to this lovely XKCD comic, and via her comments section I learned that it's a takeoff on a truly beautiful ad for the Discovery Channel:

I can never have too many reminders that the world I live in, while infinitely flawed, is a magnificent place deserving my wonder and awe.

Especially on mega-high-stress days like today.

My marketing professor would love that ad. It's like the Discovery Channel wants to be what you think of when you think "Awesome!"

(I love the ad too. It makes a lot of sense out of this morning's xkcd, and also it rocks.)

Can't watch it at work, but is it the boom-dee-a-da ad? It gives me the (good) shivers every time.

Yeah, it's the longer (60sec) version of the ad. I hadn't seen it before, and it's wonderful.

Oh, thank you. Not being a TV watcher, I chortled at xkcd even as I knew I was missing a cultural reference. This just gives me the best earworm *ever*.

Throw on this little video (http://saoba.livejournal.com/200199.html) [livejournal.com profile] saoba uncovered, and I'm sitting here full of admiration for this planet and its denizens. What a nice feeling to take into the weekend!

I absolutely LOVE this commercial. It gets me all teary and goose-bumpy every time I see it.

The comic is pretty funny too.

And if you like this commercial, I bet you'd love Where (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bNF_P281Uu4&feature=related)the Hell (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zlfKdbWwruY) is Matt (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tT8jA_pps3o&feature=user)?

Aaaaaaand, as my husband pointed out, you were the one who posted about Matt in the first place. Please to be excusing the overworked, overtired erbie.

I love your icon of the comic. May I borrow it for occasional use?

It seems to be up for grabs, yes. See my userpics page for the proper credit to give.

Here from Making Light. Thanks for explaining the reference!

My favourite bit is Stephen Hawking's line.

Wow. Thanks so much for posting this. I hadn't seen it before. I too am having a mega-stress day (week..month..ack!) and this made me cry a little and grab onto a shred of hope. I'm off to the Discovery Channel official site now, to watch their videos.

Thank you!
