For some reason, my midwives think my due date is two days later than I thought it was. So here I was all proud of being in the 36th week, and instead I am only 35w5d. You can stop feeling sorry for my unbelievably bulbous self now, because apparently I'm not that pregnant.

All is well. I've gained two more pounds, and yet my belly has increased by 6 full centimeters. (Which is probably why people keep remarking on my size, huh.) Niblet is (hooray!) definitely head down. His heartbeat sounds great. The midwife estimates that he weighs 6 1/2 pounds. My blood pressure remains beautiful at 118/72. Nothing untoward is happening with protein and sugar. I am 1cm dilated and 50% effaced.

I had a lot of awful symptoms last week: exhaustion, noticeably swollen legs after work, lots of pelvic pain and trouble walking. Much more so than at the equivalent point in my pregnancy with Alex. Finally it occurred to me that when I was pregnant with Alex, a bus picked me up a block from my house and dropped me off right outside my office. Now I walk three blocks to the light rail and six blocks from the light rail stop to my office. Apparently that extra 18 blocks a day makes a difference, because I felt basically okay over the weekend and had no swelling. I've now gotten a medical excuse to park in a garage close to my building, so that should help a lot with my continuing comfort.

I turned in my hospital registration and my birth certificate application, and signed a general hospital consent form. The midwife signed my family leave paperwork.

We've sorted out our infant gear - carseat, cosleeper, bouncy seat, swing, playmat, breast pump, books, toys - and separated out the fabric parts for laundering. The plastic and metal parts could all use a good scrubbing with soapy water. Still need to buy BPA-free Avent bottles. I decided our diaper bag wasn't salvagable and ordered a new one. I need to find instructions for threading my Maya wrap, because I have totally forgotten how. Also, I want to order a matching doll sling for Alex. Or is that too cutesy?

I think the matching doll sling is a great idea. If she doesn't feel like toting a doll around in it, she can always use it as a superhero cape!

Such excitement. Have *fun* (insofar as "fun" is a word you might use to describe the impending events...)

It is *not* too cutesy. I think it's a great idea. She'll love it.

You say "cutesy" like it's a bad thing.

btw: how do you feel about glass bottles? I found a nice little set of them that I almost got for you, but I wanted to check first. Thoughts?

JFTR they would be my first choice for home-storage of pumped milk but I'd be nervous of carrying them to and from work. I've only ever pumped while at home or in hospital though and never ever long-term.

Baby sling: TOTALLY an excellent idea. Linnea used to love her fleece pouch and now loves it when I use a scarf like a wrap.

Pregnancies go so much faster when they're not yours! I can't believe you're almost there!

It's not cutesy; at least not to her. It will probably make her feel more connected to you, and the Niblet. It's a "grown up" thing, and being just like yours reinforces that.

I think it's a great idea.
