It's Notre-Dame; Alex and I walked over while Rivka was attending the conference. The picture where Alex is in the sunbeam is actually taken in the Sacre Couer Chapel right behind the church, which was just as beautiful, even though it's a very different style of architecture. That chapel proved to me that 1970's church design wasn't a totally lost cause; the altar piece is very much of the period, but it's still incredibly well done. We're working on uploading some other shots that show the inside of the basilica, including one that has Alex right in the foreground of the typical shot of the altar; until that gets uploaded, imagine this shot with Alex in the foreground grinning. (Side note: if you only click on one link today, go look at the full-size version of the image I linked to. That may be the largest JPEG I've ever seen, but it's totally worth it.)
Alex had never been in a church with kneelers before, and she was fascinated with the idea of walking along them. She was a little intimidated by the size of the cathedral proper, but when we were coming back from the potty, we poked our heads into the parish hall, which was just about the same size as the parish halls in the churches she knows, and that seemed to reassure her. She also made friends with a two-year-old girl visiting from Ottawa, and I nearly had to drag her away from playing with her new friend in front of the cathedral.
