Wow, I was really behind with uploading pictures, wasn't I? More so than I realized. There are about 45 new ones up at my Flickr page. Here's a preview:
The little slip we got at his four-month doctor visit says 25 1/2 inches. Could he really have gotten that much longer in four months, just from my milk? I don't know why that seems so much more far-fetched than the fact that he's nearly doubled his birth weight.
We find out this week how long Miss Meeps is, but at the last appointment (2 months) she was over 23 inches. She is definitely not going to be short like I am. I am concerned about how much weight she is gaining. I breastfeed on demand, and I too am stunned that she can grow on it the way she has. She has doubled her birth weight a bit early. I've actually been concerned that she is eating too much.
Breastfed babies often put on a lot more weight than formula-fed babies early on, and then sort of lengthen out and slim down as time goes on. There are WHO growth charts which are based on breastfed babies (standard charts are based entirely on formula-fed babies), so if you have concerns about where she falls on the chart you might want to download one of the WHO charts.
At two months, it's pretty common for babies to still be very singleminded about nursing. Soon Miss Meeps will discover toys and be willing to go longer without eating. I think you're doing the right thing by continuing to respond to her cues.
