I'm sorry to totally spam you guys with Alex today, but she's really in full flower. I can't resist reporting this conversation with my daughter:

Alex: (singing) Jordan River is big and wide, Alleluia. Milk and honey on the other side, Alleluia. (speaking) Who put the milk and honey on the other side?
Me: (sifts through a bunch of potential allegorical answers and then picks the chickening-out one) I don't know.
Alex: Well, who do you *think* it was?
Me: I think in the song, it's supposed to be God.
Alex: I think it was pirates.
Me: Pirates?
Alex: Yeah, pirates. I think they stole the milk and honey from someone.

Too funny. I think the only possible response to that is, "On second thought, it was probably the ninjas." :-D

And they set it up so the pirates would get the blame.

Flashback to the Little House books where Laura thinks of just how disgusting a land "flowing with milk and honey" would be, until her mom explains that it's a metaphor for a land with bees and cows and grazing land.

Someday Alex will host a podcast about theology, and I will be first in line to subscribe.

So I shared this conversation with my best friend, which spawned the following conversation...

Libby: no no no.
Libby: Clearly it was the chicken.
Libby: Why did the chicken cross the river? To get to the milk & honey!
meledy: heee
Libby: hmm. Although that suggests it WASN'T the chicken. The chicken might have been a patsy.
meledy: Of the pirates!
meledy: (5 year olds are da cute)
Libby: It just doesn't sound very piratical.... oh. 5? then yes, pirates. : )
meledy: Possibly 4
meledy: Not older
Libby: (Although I would think that the pirates would EAT the milk and honey)
meledy: Too healthy
meledy: Pirates only eat bananas and beer
Libby: milk with honey in it? very tasty and fattening. Ergo pirates would love it. They might even make honey ice cream
meledy: YUM
Libby: .... which I now need to go home and make RIGHT NOW
meledy: I was gonna say!
Libby: No, the culprit we're looking for is more along the lines of a milk-and-honey-hoarder
meledy: POOH
Libby: sort of a cross between a bee and a cow
Libby: YES! POOH!

Alex stories are the polar opposite of spam. I read bits of them to my husband, and he likes them.
