Milestones I could do without: baby's first injury involving blood.

He fell over and bit the inside of his lip with his brand-new teeth, so it's not a serious injury. But blood is never fun to see.

Oh, that *is* a sucky milestone. And while it's not serious, it can be pretty dramatic (our one inside of mouth injury involved spurting blood, but stopped bleeding before we could even get him into the car to go to the ED).

How are you?

The Sprout's first was a faceplant into a stone fireplace, band-new lower teeth went almost through the lower lip. It's a head injury. I could have sworn he bled 2.5 times his entire body mass.

Awww. Poor Colin! Congrats on the dangerous brand-new teeth, though!

Ow. Mouth injuries bleed so, too. Just what you needed...

Still, them's fine useful teeth he's got.

No, but sometimes reactions to it can be funny: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-fVDGu82FeQ

Glad he's not seriously injured. Hope your days stop sucking really soon!

"But blood is never fun to see."

At least now you're sure he's got some.

Yeah, we had similar yesterday -- L fell while standing and scraped her temple on something on the way down. It only bled a tiny bit, but the sight of her bleeding made me cry.

Colin also has a bruise on his forehead and a purple bump mark on his eyebrow ridge. Why yes, he's just started cruising. And I remember the summer that Alex had perpetually scraped knees, when she had just learned to run.

When I was in grad school and studying under a child abuse expert I read something that went over normal vs. abnormal injuries at different ages. So I knew even before I had kids that this is the age I can expect my kid to go around with visible minor head injuries. ;-)

Yeah, Laurel is starting to cruise, too. Except she forgets that she needs to hang on to something or she'll topple over. :(

I keep telling my partner it looks like we're beating her, but he says there's no way an adult could make such small, precise marks. :P
