I hope you believe the signs about ponies biting. Last time I was there I couldn't believe the number of parents who were trying to feed their offspring to the ponies.

You could read Alex the Misty of Chincoteague books (pointing out the obvious gender role issues), as a link in - I loved them when I was a kid, although I was a good few years older than Alex.
