Talk to Rev. about it. I don't think he's been assuming that whoever is preaching will be doing a talk-back.
I did today - that's how I found out about it. Donna DiSchullo is going to be there to be ministerial. He did say that I didn't have to attend the discussion, but come on.
By the by, as long as the babies hold off on their grand entrance, I'll be there!
That would be such a comfort to me. I won't count on it, though, because everybody knows what babies are like.
I was discussing my nervousness at the dinner table tonight, and it was the first time we explained to Alex that I was going to be preaching. She suggested that I send an e-mail to Rev. David, which she dictated:
From Rebecca. I have TWO CHILDREN. And you want me to do YOUR JOB? What could you be thinking?!
It's a tempting solution but not one that would work at this point, I think.
One would hope that your congregants will recognize that compassion is to be the order of the day.
Also, lay preaching is scary, but you can also delegate surprisingly large portions of the job to the Spirit (or your personal analogous non-corporeal wellspring) and have faith that sufficient preparation will be sufficient. I've never seen it not work out in the end.
