One I stop posting, it starts to feel like I shouldn't post until I have something really momentous to say. "You've barely posted in months, you didn't write about X, Y, and Z, but you're going to make a post about trivial topic q? Really?"

That's a large part of why I never restarted Respectful of Otters. I couldn't let myself just post sporadic small things - I couldn't restart unless I was going to make significant posts on a regular basis. With the first one super-awesome-earthshattering, of course, to make restarting justifiable.

So the hell with that. If I go ahead and post a few random trivial things, maybe the spell will be broken and I'll be able to start writing again.

Random trivial thing of the day:

You can easily tell by looking at Colin how many days it's been since we've done laundry.

First day of clean laundry: green and grey striped hoodie.

IMAG0524 IMAG0509

First few nights of clean laundry: moose hoodie PJs. Yes, he sleeps with the hood up.

moose_pjs2

Second day of clean laundry: orange hoodie with raccoons on it.

hoodie_boy

Third day of clean laundry: grey hoodie whose hood doesn't stay up very well, but it is partially redeemed by having a picture of a bulldozer on it.

If Colin is wearing an item of clothing that doesn't have a hood, it's been at least three days since we did laundry. Simple as that.

Pictures of your children, while random, are never trivial. Signed, a Fond Internet Auntie.

This, yes. I have never understood why children are a "trivial" topic of conversation.

Especially not the awesome ones!

Although, Rivka, if you should be moved to describe a certain person's perp- Walk of Shame, we'd be all ears.

Yeah, that's one of the things I'd be interested to hear Rivka write about.

Obviously, Colin needs more hoodies.

As far as posting frequencies go, pay particular attention to [livejournal.com profile] txanne and [livejournal.com profile] wcg, for they are Smart People.

I have a similar posting problem - I get out of the habit, and then it feels really hard to get back *in* the habit unless I have Something Profound to say. I haven't quite figured out how to conquer it yet, having no adorable children whose photos I can post.

I could post pictures of my adorable cats. But they have a much more limited wardrobe. (-:

Definitely with you on the posting frequency issue. I think it may be a complication/symptom of Perfectionism Paralysis (in which I don't want to do anything that isn't perfect, so I just don't do anything at all... I think you mentioned Alex having a bit of this in the homeschooling blog, I sympathize so much).

But pictures of your adorable child/ren are always welcome. :)

I should mention that I also relate to Colin's intimate wardrobe to laundry day connection. Based on the sweater I am wearing today you can tell that it's been over a week since my clothes have made it into the wash.

I just like having news of you, and am a total sucker for photos of the kids, but I don't require them.

I have the same problem, though, even though I don't post much that is elevated or thoughtful in the first place. The longer I go between posts, the more momentous or at least LONG the post that breaks the silence needs to be. I don't at all feel that way about anybody I read. It's peculiar.

I don't think we ever go three days without doing laundry. This doesn't mean we all have enough clean clothes all the time though. It just means we have laundry piles everywhere. I have no idea what to do about it.

When we get to the point that there are laundry piles all over the house, we grab everything we can find and take it to one of the laundromats that has drop-off service. When we get it back, it's washed and either folded or on a hanger.

Once we get caught up like that, we're generally able to keep on top of it for about 6-8 months.

We've done that a few times when the weather has been too bad to get things dry otherwise but it's generally very expensive. Our main issue is getting things dry, really.

From: [identity profile] marydell.livejournal.com
We have this problem too--we have a dryer, but stuff has to run through 2 or 3 times to get dry. We're thinking the lint-hose thing that comes out the back and goes outside may be full, but we can't get to it easily to find out.

ISTR hearing about a dryer fire that started because of a lint hose, but I confess I haven't checked Snopes.

Date: 2011-02-26 07:04 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] marydell.livejournal.com
A clogged lint hose is definitely a fire hazard, so we're gonna have to have someone come disconnect the dryer so we can clean it out. We figure disconnecting gas hoses ourselves so we can move the dryer is probably a bigger fire hazard...stupid awkwardly-positioned dryer.

A dehumidifier in a wardrobe or large cupboard. Hang the clothes up, start the dehumidifier and close the door. Clothes get dry overnight, and you have water for non-drinking purposes. Much cheaper than running a dryer, too.

Ooo, is there a secret to keeping his PJ's dry so he can wear them more than once per cycle? I mean, we have discovered diapers, :) so something beyond that?

Have the kind of child that works for? I know children with only two sets of PJs. And others who need clean every day, and more than one outfit a day too. Roll on summer.

I'm specifically wondering about keeping them dry, not clean per se. :) We do 2 layers of diapers, and I sneak in at 11 most nights and change my son while he sleeps, and he still manages to wake up wet half the time.

And then wants to sit on my lap, of course.

I had one child like that, one who only needed a diaper overnight, and the current one stays dry as long as she's changed at midnight and about 8am. For the first one, we started using baby sleeping bags as an extra layer of absorbency. We also found cloth diapers better than disposables, because they were easier to layer up, though she ended up sleeping on a tilt a fair bit of the time.

From: [identity profile] marydell.livejournal.com
Hmm, I might try putting a cloth diaper over the disposables, for an extra layer.

I don't know. He does pee through a couple times a week, but for whether it's the fit or the bladder, it's not an every-night thing.

Our problem could be because of Charlie drinking a ridiculous amount of liquid at bedtime...he was going through a no-want-eat thing and making up for it in milk. We've got him interested in dinner again so maybe he'll stop hitting the bottle so hard!

Colin is super-cute in his hoodies, btw. That last picture makes me want to get him a tiny skateboard.

Elena used to have a blue sleeveless dress that was always worn the day after laundry (with a shirt layered under in the winter, plain in the summer). She's finally gotten away from that, but it took several years. I'm not sure if it fits her anymore......

Beka has those exact same moose pajamas, only without a hood.

We were reading Mrs. Tiggy-winkle to her lately (she's only just become safe enough around paper-pages books), and I realized it might be perfect for something relating around one of your history lessons with Alex -- so much of it reminded me (because of most recent exposure) of Edwardian Farm, and the careful walkthrough of all the steps that happen AFTER you get your laundry wet and clean is definitely a blast from the past.
