The thing is, she really doesn't. She's sort of trying out reactions, but it's all a put-on. Of course she doesn't have the faintest amount of non-intellectual understanding.

I can see that. It's just that she's capable of these astonishing bursts of apparently adult ideation that it's difficult at this distance not to think of her as having an adult emotional apparatus.

Staying dead is so hard for all of us to understand, and the worst part is that it never gets easy even though we have lots of practice.
