Evil, evil timesink.

My mother, who is evil - evil! - and apparently never wants me to get work done again, sent me a link to a jigsaw puzzle site. Cute little Java applets of jigsaw puzzles - you drag the pieces into place and they snap together. Innocent, right?

Except. It's not just jigsaw puzzle piece shapes, which would have paled on me quickly.

Puzzle pieces in the shapes of birds. Escheresque interlocking lizards. US states. It's fiendish.

The only possible way for me to save myself is to inflict it upon others. I'm not sure how that will help, but I'm sure that it will.

I think the Euros are the most difficult pieces so far (but I've only tried 3).

Another thing keeping me from finishing the puzzle that's spread out on my dining room table . . .

BTW, if you find this seductive, you ought to try the computer versions of the Puzz3D puzzles of Notre Dame Cathedral, a German castle, a Victorian mansion, etc. Not only is the puzzle-making action *incredibly* true to life (right down to the trays to sort like pieces into, and the satisfying "snap" when you get the right pieces together), but each one includes a bit of a mystery game; when you get the puzzle built you can go inside the "real" building, meet characters from the story, and play a bunch of other puzzler type games to find the clues. Too much fun ... (Especially if, like me, you have a cat that likes to steal your real jigsaw puzzle pieces...)
