(I know my quoted material in this post is incredibly mean, and I usually try not to stoop to this level. But you wouldn't believe the drivel he posted about HIV, and I had a hard week in the clinic, and I was just not amused.)

What fundamentalist protestant church are you posting this for??? If
you knew anything but the propaghanda you spout you would see why
there is so little respect for the current right wing position. If
your such a great expert tell us the conclusions about the latest
Australian research in Africa including the circumcision stuff. And
do you also believe you can get the clap from toilet seats??? Tell us
all you know about Hepititus too. Tell us if you think its less or
worse a problem than HIV.

HIV is far from new. Medical records such as they are, from the first
days of Australia give detailed information on who died from what in
the colony and guess what? Over half the records show the same
symptoms as HIV!!

Did you also know that 95% of the so called AIDS victims are NEVER
tested??? As a great expert you know that AIDs or HIV doesn't kill
you, it just lets other things do it. In Africa they are so poor they
can't afford testing everyone and just look at sets of conditions that
usually are attributed to a depressed immune system and guess what,
these same deseases have been killing Africans since way before anyone
knew anything about HIV, hundreds of years. Oh and that 5% they do
test??? Half come out negitive.

Is there an epedemic in Africa? No, Is AIDS serious? Yes, is heptitus
more damgerous and transmittable than HIV? YES Are swingers and
POLY's in a high risk catagory NO! You can tell me over and over of
all the people you hang around with that are positive but every bit of
research on the lifestyle shows that "Alerternate Lifestyle" people
have the lowest SDT rate of any sexually active group in America.

If you thinkwe are all a bunch of deaseased freaks why do you hang out
on this news group????

Heh. I bounced that post to [livejournal.com profile] oneironaut, who has been observing my ongoing incredulity and occasional bouts of snarkiness on the subject of this particular fellow since his appearance; gtst asked for context on my ravings. (Your original response got the commentary, "Go Rivka." Gtst has expressed in the past that gtst thinks you're cool. ;) ) I forwarded it with the warning, "It'll infuriate you."

I got, after some delay, the response, "... Protestant church?" (To which I could only reply, "Okay, it may baffle you immensely as well as infuriating you.")

I'm really having issues with the fellow, as I can't . . . can't imagine anything I say actually being useful, but he's being so preposterous and offensive that I feel an urge to say something.

Mmph. Something-or-other. Not especially coherent me.

Am I going to meet this person at ap9, I hope?

Anyway, I can't take credit for the best line in that response - that was Mary McCarthy all the way. But it is kind of [livejournal.com profile] oneironaut to approve.

I got, after some delay, the response, "... Protestant church?"

Just a couple of months ago, I got a letter from my old Protestant church explaining that they were still paying dues for me because I was on the rolls, and I hadn't shown up to church in some time, and was I still interested? And I sent them a very nice card explaining that I had joined the First Unitarian Church of Baltimore, but wished them well.

I'm really having issues with the fellow, as I can't . . . can't imagine anything I say actually being useful, but he's being so preposterous and offensive that I feel an urge to say something.

Yes. The voice in the back of my head keeps composing lengthy footnoted responses debunking each of his preposterous claims about HIV. But really, it just makes me sad. I keep thinking of my patients who have died, and how much they struggled, and then his posts don't seem funny at all.

*giggle* I wonder what gtst would think of being wanted-to-be-met, I'll have to inflict the URL to this entry. And is actually more local to you than to me -- we discovered a while back that gtst knows about the well-concealed meat-on-skewers restaurant. I believe Squid approves in general of well-aimed snarkiness, especially in large caliber measurements.

I wonder what Squid would think of the idea of being included in my family-conceptualization in role of 'stray secondary and auncle to my fictional offspring'. Hey, I've sent candy and jewelry, but not flowers. . . ;)

On more serious stuff . . . I really don't know how to deal with the guy, even just in my head. The sort of . . . misinformation . . . stuff . . . argh. The only word I have handy is evil, which I'm not used to attaching to actual aspects of my reality.

Nnnrgh.

Oh my dear very me goodness oh.

I shall reply to both of you strange and bewildering people here, and leave the exciting task of figuring out who said exactly what to the reader.

Am I going to meet this person at ap9, I hope?

Ap9 -- is that the alt.poly convention, or am I thinking of some other acronym? I don't generally (well, ever, thus far) go to cons, because I'm terrible with crowds. (I think an alt.poly convention would be kind of weird for me, anyway, considering I'm neither poly nor a regular reader of the newsgroup. My occasional appearances on [livejournal.com profile] polyamory are entirely the fault of [livejournal.com profile] lilairen and of my fight-or-fight reaction to public stupidity.)

I'm so much less cool in person, you're really not missing much.

I wonder what Squid would think of the idea of being included in my family-conceptualization in role of 'stray secondary and auncle to my fictional offspring'. Hey, I've sent candy and jewelry, but not flowers. . . ;)

Hmm.

... hmm.

Actually, that kind of fits.

I think permission to handle your hypothetical progeny carries at least as much weight as flowers, and it ships better (permission does, not your progeny), so that'll do.

The sort of . . . misinformation . . . stuff . . . argh. The only word I have handy is evil, which I'm not used to attaching to actual aspects of my reality.

Argh. Thanks a lot: I've only been witness to a little of Thom's deranged ranting, but can feel the gap in my vocabulary where we need a word for that. Loathsome isn't quite there, though I enjoy saying it.

In closing, I love me some meat-on-skewers. And I mean that in the most innocent sense.

Darling, it's okay. I suppose I still am a Protestant, even though I no longer attend a Protestant church. You needn't call him out for insulting me.

aside from the ignorant and irritating BS he's spouting, has anyone had a little talk with him about the spell-check function? His medical terminology is nearly uniformly butchered, spelling-wise. The rest of it isn't so well written either...(and please, if you find out, what does the word deaseased mean?)

Nashville is nice, and I am sure the people in (how did he put it?) "Alerternate Lifestyle" here are even more gullible than the folks up there. You could pose as a reasonable, poly, literate person for YEARS before we caught on.

As flames go, I give this a 2 on a 1-10 scale. It lacks in originality, facts, class and taste. Lousy spelling and simplistic sentence structure remove any chance of the reader treating the content with respect. Then there's the "freaks" reference, to which I cannot find anywhere in the post he's responding to. Poor form all around.
