I had a lot of unavoidable downtime this week at work - mostly waiting at the clinic for research subjects. There's not a lot I can do to fill that time. So, on the back of a copy of the Ironson-Woods Spirituality/Religiousness Scale, I set to work on the "100 things about me" meme most recently demonstrated by [livejournal.com profile] pegkerr.

1. I dyed my hair red with a purple streak just before going into the hospital for surgery. The nurses kept mistaking the purple streak for some sort of weird after-effect of my treatment, which mystifies me to this day.
2. I can eat fire, although I haven't done so in years.
3. I used to shave my head.
4. When I was younger, I used to have an insufferable streak about my grandfather's Nobel Prize. It took me a long time to realize that his achievement said a lot less about me than my intellectual snobbery did.
5. I don't like Godiva chocolates or most other high-end brands. Too many of them have liqueurs or nuts. I much prefer Wockenfuss.
6. I like cream cheese and green olive sandwiches.
7. I can't abide war movies or action movies. Some SF and fantasy movies are excepted, but not all. I just have an insufficient taste for killings and explosions.
8. For most of my life, New Year's has been my least favorite holiday. This year I'm actually looking forward to it.
9. For years, I wore aqua-colored contact lenses.
10. I'm a total wuss about things like amusement park rides.
11. I love chai, but most places make it too sweet for me. Any restaurant serving barely-sweet chai will win my devotion forever.
12. I went to my first March on Washington when I was fifteen.
13. Sappy commercials make me teary.
14. I'm inordinately fond of my small hand.
15. As a child, I used to make up elaborate tall tales about why I only had four fingers. I would present these stories as the truth.
16. My first client totally intimidated the hell out of me.
17. I always got good grades in math, but I always hated it.
18. I wish I'd kept up with my piano playing. I'm nowhere near as good now as I was when I was fourteen.
19. I am deeply squicked by bugs.
20. I counted on my fingers right up through junior high.
21. In high school, I got caught making up stories in an attempt to look cool.
22. I have lived with a kleptomaniac and a pathological liar.
23. I received my first kiss at the Texaco Star National Academic Championship.
24. I pray.
25. In college, I did something mindbogglingly stupid involving illegal materials and the U.S. mail.
26. I never dated in high school.
27. I have my great-grandmother's opal ring, which I think is cool even though the ring itself is quite unattractive.
28. I've written a fanfiction vignette.
29. I usually have a couple of Mary Sue-type stories ongoing in my head, for entertaining myself when bored.
30. I've charted out the plot of a mystery novel, but I haven't written any actual words.
31. I have a strange attaction to fundamentalist Christian marriage manuals.
32. I've had head lice a few times. The last time was in college.
33. Scents and dyes irritate my skin. I love sybaritic bath products, but I can't really use them.
34. I know the Girl Scout promise and law by heart.
35. In college, as chair of the Student Judicial Board, I was responsible for several people being expelled.
36. I couldn't put on makeup well to save my life. Not even lipstick.
37. I love sour foods.
38. The way to my heart is through my stomach.
39. I re-read all of Jane Austen every eighteen months or so.
40. I couldn't care less about the Golden Age of Science Fiction.
41. I didn't do enough to support [livejournal.com profile] peaberry.
42. I once thought I saw a spaceship land in the Crystal Springs Rhododendron Garden.
43. New Age stuff bores me silly.
44. I get motion sick.
45. I'm intimidated by foreign languages.
46. Although I love to try new restaurants, at my favorite restaurants I usually order the same thing every time.
47. In my heart, I know I'm ordinary.
48. I don't think I'll ever get used to the idea that real authors might actually be interested in knowing me.
49. I'm an embarrassingly lousy correspondent.
50. I tend to get intense starry-eyed crushes - usually platonic ones - on middle-aged women. As in, I'm in the midst of several of them right now.
51. I love baths.
52. I've lost track of how many people I've slept with.
53. I often worry about whether or not I'm cool enough for people to like me.
54. I used to have much more of a taste for political debate than I do now.
55. I bite my nails.
56. I hate cigarette smoke.
57. I'm shy, but I fake not being shy pretty well - most of the time.
58. I thought I never wanted to have another one-night stand, but the last one was so lovely that I've possibly changed my mind about this.
59. I really wish I were more patient.
60. I really want a massive dog - an Irish Wolfhound or Newfoundland, for preference.
61. I love massages. But once [livejournal.com profile] curiousangel gave me a gift certificate for one and I never got around to redeeming it.
62. I haven't been to the pistol range in months.
63. Every time I go to a con, I'm convinced that no one will want to talk to me. Then I get over it.
64. I don't pay close enough attention to names. It's not uncommon for me to be introduced to someone and then forget their name within the next ten minutes.
65. Mmmm, dried mangoes. Unless they're leathery.
66. Intellectually, I know why it's a bad idea to believe that food=love. Emotionally, I don't see anything wrong with it. If I love you, I'll want to cook for you.
67. I sing to myself a lot. Mostly folk songs.
68. Don't ever tickle me.
69. I would go to almost any lengths to not to have to let someone know I don't like them.
70. I have to keep a tight rein on my impulse to be a martyr.
71. I wear my hair this short so I can arrange it with one hand.
72. I've had surgery eleven times.

74. I'm tied with [livejournal.com profile] wcg for the most quotes on [livejournal.com profile] pixel's car.
75. I'm going to Minicon in April.
76. I miss alt.callahans as it used to be, but I'm not entirely sure that it was ever really what I thought it was.
77. I am embarrassed to say that I would probably really love going on a cruise.
78. I like to do things at orderly times. It would bug me to leave for a long car trip at 8:12 or something.

88. I didn't get into graduate school the first year I applied.
89. My mother and I used to watch Love Story together when we wanted to have a good cry.
90. My first job was working as a file clerk in a doctor's office, at $3.35 an hour.
91. I have ten publications.
92. I have a gorgeous dollhouse, with a turret and a wraparound front porch and lots of gingerbread.
93. In high school, I was captain of the Quiz Bowl team. I was pretty damn good at it, too.
94. My apartment is nearly always a mess.
95. I've never really liked stuffed animals. My squirrel is the only real exception.
96. Contrary to what might be expected from my 18th century dance garb, I've never had any interest in historical reenactment.
97. Everyone in my family has the same sharp, beaky nose. Despite this, I still intend to reproduce.
98. If I'd stopped to think about how many years I would be studying psychology, I would have taken a broader range of courses in college.
99. I bake a mean chocolate cake.
100. The one time I ever went skiing, I was so unnerved and timid that I sound up faking an ankle injury so I wouldn't have to do it anymore.

Analytical is the logic section, yes. I thought it was really easy, although I did have to do a couple of practice tests before I was quick enough to finish the analytical sections in the alotted time.

that section was sort of like the things-hiding-pictures for me. cross my eyes, focus about two feet in front of what i was looking at, and slam bang, there it all is.

Thanks for doing this. It's as fun to read other peoples 100 things list as it is to do one of your own.

Cheers,
Peg

I know! I enjoyed reading yours too.

I hope you're planning to be at Minicon (#75). I'd really like to meet you, even though #48.

Apparently, our guests spent the first half of the wedding wandering around debating which one of us was Pinky and which was the Brain. Many theories were put forth.

Finally, [livejournal.com profile] saoba's husband Mikhail came up with a definitive answer. "Do you want to tell Rivka she's not the Brain?"

Silence. Then, universal agreement: "[livejournal.com profile] curiousangel's Pinky. Definitely."

8. NYE for me is a time to drink and hibernate - it is when I found out my mom was "missing" (ended up being dead) Hopefully someday I will enjoy the holiday again. I have gone from Spend day drunk and crying to be low key and a bit mopey which I consider a HUGE improvement

14. I didn't know you had a small hand until your NYE photos this morning
64. I do the same
77. I'm not embarassed about wanting to go on a cruise at all. I want to go!
88. Pooch didn't get in the first two years he applied.

47. In my heart, I know I'm ordinary.

Rivka, I know ordinary. And you, whatever you tell yourself in your heart, are not ordinary. I am well aware that not being ordinary can be a mixed blessing.

The world would be a much better place if you were the definition of ordinariness.

It occurs to me that my above comment could be seen as dismissing how you define yourself. That was not my intent... let me just say that, if you see yourself as ordinary, I wish more of the world was as "ordinary" as you.

7. I can't abide war movies or action movies. Some SF and fantasy movies are excepted, but not all. I just have an insufficient taste for killings and explosions.

Please, please see Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon.

10. I'm a total wuss about things like amusement park rides.

Does this mean I won't be able to take you on the Sky Screamer at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas?

20. I counted on my fingers right up through junior high.

Base 9? *duck*

42. I once thought I saw a spaceship land in the Crystal Springs Rhododendron Garden.

During Renn Fayre?

45. I'm intimidated by foreign languages.

Me too. But they are so interesting.

50. I tend to get intense starry-eyed crushes - usually platonic ones - on middle-aged women. As in, I'm in the midst of several of them right now.

You might want to be more careful with how you use the hyphenated m-word. Young thang.

52. I've lost track of how many people I've slept with.

I guess that means more than 9? *duck*

62. I haven't been to the pistol range in months.

Oooh. Want to go when I come to visit in January?

64. I don't pay close enough attention to names. It's not uncommon for me to be introduced to someone and then forget their name within the next ten minutes.

You can hold them for 10 minutes? I frequently have trouble with 10 seconds.

68. Don't ever tickle me.

or throw her over your shoulder.

76. I miss alt.callahans as it used to be, but I'm not entirely sure that it was ever really what I thought it was.

"Old Callahans?"

77. I am embarrassed to say that I would probably really love going on a cruise.

I think a cruise would be a great venue for a conference.

81. I wish I had lost my virginity to fourgates.

*blush* Gosh. It's OK with me if you just tell people that you did. It'd be our little secret.

82. I frequently express my love for curiousangel by saying "Bark!"

Awwwww.

I did. It was okay. Very pretty cinematography.

Does this mean I won't be able to take you on the Sky Screamer at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas?

That depends. Will you want me to ever be willing to speak to you again, or is that optional?

42. I once thought I saw a spaceship land in the Crystal Springs Rhododendron Garden.

During Renn Fayre?

Hee. No, but you're on the right track.

76. I miss alt.callahans as it used to be, but I'm not entirely sure that it was ever really what I thought it was.

"Old Callahans?"

This made me laugh out loud in the middle of Davis-Kidd Bookstore.

*blush* Gosh. It's OK with me if you just tell people that you did. It'd be our little secret.

Just between you, me, and the 100+ people who read my LiveJournal.
