Disney earworm time.
Jul. 16th, 2003 05:56 pmFrom fourth through seventh grade, my best friend was a girl named Kirsten. We did everything together - I was a child of few, but very intense, friendships - until she moved to Montana the summer after seventh grade. We visited each other a couple of times, and wrote letters for a while after that, but eventually lost contact.
(The losing contact part was all my fault - most of you probably already know what a lousy correspondent I am. She wrote me, but I was... not good at writing back.)
So, apparently Kirsten has a friend named
sanj. And
sanj is friends with
therealjae. And
therealjae left a comment in this entry in
sanj's journal, which pointed to this entry in
therealjae's journal, and Kirsten saw my userpic appended to one of my comments, and it happened to be one of the pics that's actually a picture of me, as opposed to a stuffed squirrel or a presidential candidate or a dove, and apparently I look just as I did in the ninth grade, because she recognized me and wrote me an e-mail.
What makes it even odder is that, although
sanj and I apparently have a lot of shared interests, we have exactly two LJ Friends in common. There's not much social overlap at all.
therealjae just happened to link to a thread I'd commented on - and if she hadn't, Kirsten never would've found me.
How random is that?

But it is pretty cool.

Date: 2003-07-17 09:51 am (UTC)That just about sums up me. The most amazing thing about the army, though, is that you discover just how small a place Israel is, and the fact that every person you meet will know someone who knows someone who knows someone who knows you. I can tell you a thousand stories-- every girl in my course and I had common acqaintances. In 2nd grade, when I was living in the States, I had two best friends: Guy and Daphne. When I came back to Israel in 3rd grade both of them stayed in CA; all I knew was that they moved back a year later and the cities in which they lived. And now it turns out that Shiri from my course used to date a guy who was good friends with Guy, and that Daphne's long-term ex-boyfriend was in my commander's grade, so she knew her too... And now I'm back in touch with them both and it's not as interesting and random as your story, but nonetheless fun :-)
My dad says about Israelis: "If you have relatives, and I have relatives, they probably know each other."
