Are any of my friends in Minneapolis not attending Worldcon, and potentially interested in seeing a visiting Rivka and curiousangel the weekend of August 29-31?
We are not going to Worldcon. However, on those dates I may be helping Eric move to California. Feh. I may not, though. I'll try to drop you a line when I know for sure.
Thank you. Dreadful is a very good word. However, that IS where he came from and he never did intend to stay. I've succeeded in making him feel very strange about leaving, but I don't quite stack up against 11-year friendships, parents he's worried about, a five-year-old and a twenty-year-old nephew, and, well, just California.
I still recall your very moving entry when Ben left. That's going to happen to me, I thought. And now it is.
I will very likely be here. You gonna be in town? You need a place to stay? I can offer the hospitality of the Elise and the Juan, friendly chaos, too many stairs from our living space to the basement shower, at least a little bit of air-conditioned space, tons of conversation, the likelihood of the inevitable digressions of the lioness flavor being supplemented by exhibits A B C and X, a tour of what Lois has said "really *are* the attics of Vorkosigan House!", and Ghod-knows-what-all. Oh, and the solemn assurance that if you do not want to be gifted with jewelry, you had better safeword out of jewelry at the beginning of any visit.
If you have a place to stay already or otherwise, that's cool too, of course, and We Shall Hang Out, yes?
Yay! I've been sorry that I won't see you at alt.polycon, so this works perfectly. I'm looking very much forward to seeing you again, and getting to know the Juanmammal better.
Thanks for offering space to stay - do you have cats? We would be delighted to drug ourselves up with allergy medicine to visit you even if you do, but we really need to sleep somewhere that cats do not go.
Alas, we do. And although the sleeping space with air conditioning is up one floor in the Land Without Cats, there is enough catfluff in general that it might not be such a good idea. (The Land Without Cats is where the beads live, among other things that are not cat toys, no matter what the felines think.)
Life is getting a smidgen more complicated, and it looks like we will, if the airline persists in being already booked when we would rather fly, be leaving for the tropics of Charleston on Sunday the whateverth -- the 31st, right -- so if it wouldn't be too much hassle, could we get some dibs in on a little bit of time early in your weekend? Not to monopolize you, but I really really do not want to miss you guys. I'm sorry for the complication, and I hope it doesn't make too much of an inconvenience in your scheduling.
Oh. "We" in the preceeding paragraph means Mr. Ford and me. He says hi, and so does Juan.

will you be at polycon?

How could you possibly doubt it? What better thing is there to do mere days before one's dissertation defense?
You just won't get to see me right afterward and buy me drinks and call me doctor, that's all.
