So *that's* why I don't feel better.

Just walked in the door to the sound of the phone. The rapid strep test I had last Friday might have been negative, but the regular strep test is positive. They've called in a prescription for amoxicillin, which I'll go pick up in a few minutes.

I knew I wasn't still supposed to be feeling sick seven days later. Now all it will take is a couple of doses of antibiotics, and I'll feel fine. Yay! Bacterial infections are so much better than the alternative.

Maybe I should've gone to the doctor earlier than Friday, but it really had all the hallmarks of a virus. Maybe they should've gotten my strep results back to me yesterday, though, hm? I would already be feeling better, and I wouldn't have gone to the clinic in a probably-infectious condition today.

I hope no one else gets sick. Probably not, because I was being careful not to pass on whatever I might have.

Mmmmmmmm, antibiotics.

Last time I got strep, I was on inhaled steroids (acute asthma issues for a couple of weeks due to building construction) and didn't notice I had strep until I gave it to both my then partner (the person I refer to as the local ex) and via him, to his wife. Both of whom turned out to have allergic reactions to the first antibiotics they got given.

I didn't notice at the time, because I'd been told that not one but *two* of the medications I was on could cause an incredibly painful sore throat, and I had no other symptoms (other than the asthma stuff I was feeling fine, no fever, etc.)

However, once I got on the antibiotics, I felt much better within a day or two. I hope you do too.

Yikes. Talk about your seldom-discussed poly disease-transmission issues...

I know, I know. (Now ask me how incredibly guilty I felt about that one - but I didn't think I was sick when I flew out, and it was a necessary trip to find an apartment and such before moving..)

I do bring it up when people seem not to be considering it. I'm also grateful my partners are both thoughtful about things like that.

(Though, amusingly enough, both the fiance and I turned out to have been exposed to chicken pox multiple times and never got it. We've both got funky immune systems...)

I hope you get to feeling better soon.

"Bacterial infections are so much better than the alternative."

Yes. After all, we know from FBI reports that anthrax is a virus.

Strep can be pretty scary. You take care now.
