rivka: (WTF?!)

...I guess I've been reading the wrong kinds of communities. Suddenly I was overtaken with the urge to learn how to make an animated GIF icon. Some kind of perverse LJ-transmissible sickness, I guess.

What do you think? Too subtle?

It took me a moment, but now that I've got it, I love it.

It is too subtle. People are going to miss that you're snarking them. That may be the essence of its appeal.

I can't make out the text (not your fault; my aging eyes can't make out most usericon text. I miss all the good jokes.)

You shouldn't need to be able to make out the text - you should just need to be able to identify the comic strip.

*chortle* OK, I get it. Brilliant.

I am distracted by wondering if the original strip really had a character _saying_ a font-tag.

But, you know, if you hover your mouse over the icon, you can see the keyword, which helps. =>

I pulled the panel off someone else's site, so I can't say for absolute certain. But I'm pretty sure that it did - Foxtrot has always been full of geeky humor.

Yes, that strip has Jason saying a font tag; also paragraph tag and I think bold tags.

Once I realized that it wasn't "scotch, flamenco, Jason," I got it.

*blink* It can be read as something other than "Scotch, flamenco, Jason?"

My actual entire thought process was, "Scotch, flamenco, Jason? WTF?

. . . oh."

I'm still on the "WTF" stage... *scratches head*

The "WTF" stage is actually a big clue. Big, big clue. A clue of bigness. If you, like, know the Phonetic Alphabet used by the US Military and others.

As my grandma used to say, "Dawn breaks on Marblehead".

Thanks, I think. :)

Heh. I suppose that it shouldn't surprise me...

Clever!

Of course, now I want to go make one ...

Once someone explained it to me it made sense... but then, I've never heard of the comic strip.

It is kind of U.S.-centric, I know. But it's too hard to find icon-able dance photos that adequately distinguish the tango from the foxtrot.

Neat. And there's nothing wrong with a very occasional animated userpic, really.

It took a while, mainly because I couldn't figure out what the first picture was at first.
