Dean [Dean] has informed me that your appointment to Assistant Professor of Medicine in the Infectious Diseases Division effective July 1, 2007 has been officially approved.

I received this today. The letter is dated October 26th (coincidentally, my birthday). It's a mere five months after my application packet was officially complete, three months after I started getting paid at my new rate, two months after I got my faculty ID badge, and six weeks after I completed New Faculty Orientation.
So there you are. No matter what happens next - whether the grant gets funded or not, whether I decide to stay in academia or not - I have officially achieved faculty rank. Yay.
