Cross Stitch Collectibles has finally made a pattern for my favorite M.C. Escher picture.

Updated to add: Oh my God. Tell me I would have to be insane to do this one.

Date: 2003-05-01 06:36 pm (UTC)During the first episode of Manor House, the Butler wore two pair of glasses (to emulate bifocals, I'm assuming, though those *were* around in 1905. Maybe they were too expensive...but I digress) while reading something...if you stitched that one, you'd need at least three pair of glasses...bifocaled or not. *grin*
But, it *is* gorgeous.

Date: 2003-05-01 08:12 pm (UTC)In its favor is the fact that I enjoy doing the stitching more than I enjoy having the finished project. Still, if I averaged a hundred stitches a day, it would take me five years to finish...

But such a beautiful insanity...
amazing cross stitch
Date: 2003-05-01 07:07 pm (UTC)of course now i am thinking that creating the patterns itself by software wouldn't be hard to do at all, though matching existing thread colours from various manufacturers would be a bit extra work for creating lookup tables. these patterns, do they do that for you? (yes, i am a geek, why do you ask?) it would be real cool to be able to make one's own so one can pick whatever one likes instead of waiting for somebody else to create it.
Re: amazing cross stitch
Date: 2003-05-01 08:07 pm (UTC)My understanding is, though, that a purely mechanical conversion doesn't produce the best results - there's a process of cleanup and simplification that's best done by a person who adapts the computer-generated pattern for actual stitching.

Date: 2003-05-02 06:44 am (UTC)of course, i'm not biased even though i'm completely obessed with death & life images.
actually, i'm thinking of working on a spirit flag this summer. this is a haitian art form (here's an example) where beads and sequins are sewn onto fabric. usually satin. i want to do a life filled death image. per usual :)

*only* 56 colors??
Date: 2003-05-02 08:08 am (UTC)Remember, all XS, no matter how fancy the chart is, boils down to " Needle goes up, needle goes down. Needle goes up, needle goes down. "
Signed,
the crazy woman who owns almost every Teresa Wentzler chart and has never finished a single one. You don't have to *do* the piece, you just have to buy the chart!!!

Date: 2003-05-02 10:19 am (UTC)...and no, I can not can not can not buy any of those. I STILL have a Teresa Wentzler (?) dragon tapestry on black cloth that I started way back in MIDDLE SCHOOL.
Am I ever gonna finish that?
Ha.
So. Can not buy any of those. I'd go stark ravin' bonkers.
*sits with rivka in the "Must not buy!" corner*
