Sick Alex update.

She woke up at 1am very thirsty, and I gave her a few sips of water - less than half an ounce. Over the next 45 minutes, she threw up three more times. First in her crib, and then on the futon where I was planning to sleep that night, where I'd laid her down so I could change her crib sheets.

She was up half the rest of the night begging for water. And not understanding why I limited her to a few sips an hour.

This morning, so far, she's kept down nearly 8oz of water and Pedialyte. I think we might be past it, but I still don't want her to overfill her stomach. So we're still being mean and restricting her fluid intake, and she still doesn't understand why.

Children almost never understand why, sadly.

It's one of the hardest parts of being a parent. Alex is at the age where you can start to explain, but even my younger one (who's now twelve) doesn't always understand :/

Good health thoughts from here.

Can I send you *hugs*?

When we were ill in December we washed the sick stuff at home but sent our ordinary laundry to the laundrette. It took the edge off the labour build-up.

Sarah did this at Christmas, followed by her mom two days later. Luckily neither of them were bad cases, although Sarah greeting her aunt's cheery "merry christmas" by spewing was a bit much for her and her husband.

Hope things feel better real soon.

Oh my goodness. I already find it hard when all the Spud can do is cry a little harder to accuse me of doing horrible awful things to him. I can barely imagine how hard it is to hear actual words. I hope everyone gets better as quickly as Alex got sick.

poor baby and mom&dad! I had this over Thanksgiving. Is she big enough to suck on ice cubes? I don't have kids, so I'm not sure what they can handle at any age, but crunching ice helped me a lot. I tended to swallow too much water even with my sips.

How awful for you. And how awful for her too.

What a good thing you have a washing machine! Though having said that, the hours in the launderette were sometimes the only break when Z was a small sickling baby.

When my kids were sick and too little to safely suck ice cubes, I used to give them popsicles. (The push-up kind is the least messy.) There's something about the cold that takes the edge off thirst.
