24 inches of snow in the garden, drifting in places to more than 36. Even the semi-protected walkway between our house and next door has 20 inches of snow in it.

It's still falling.

Is the snow solid enough for tunneling? I remember being able to do that when I was a kid during the Blizzard of '77 and it was THE BEST.

WOW.

The heaviest snowstorm I've ever been in here in MN, we got 31 inches of snow over the course of three days. On Halloween. People still talk about the Great Halloween Blizzard of 1991.

I knew it was serious when Rev. David [from Flint by way of Boston!] decided to cancel church tomorrow!

Okay, if a Minnesotan says wow then I don't have to feel half-apologetic about Baltimoreans and snow anymore.

I remember that too. IT WAS AMAZING! I was 4 years old and there were parts of snow tunnels in Riverside Park (NYC) that were completely enclosed. I'll never forget how the light looked inside a snow tunnel.

That's pretty serious!

At my church in coastal California, we have a guy who's originally from Detroit. He usually wears shorts to church (he's a chorister and helps the organist in the summer, so he's always got a cassock on during the service).

I know it's getting colder even for non-wimps (like fifth-generation-Californian me) when Paul breaks out the long trousers!

HOLY MOLY.

That tree is so pretty and the houses look like a Christmas card scene. Alex looks like she's having a complete blast. I am sure in future years she will tell Colin what he missed by being a very small person ;).

That must have been the year my Dad made us a snow slide in a curbside pile left by the plow + shovelers. You climbed up to the top and slid through a curving tunnel to the bottom. It was AMAZING.

We're up to 30" and the snow has just stopped. There's been three building collapses (no people hurt) -- a hanger in our airport, a church in DC, and a Catholic school in St. Mary's. Both of the religious buildings were to be used for services, so if they were going to fall, this was a better time.

I spend the first 26 years of my life living in Wisconsin, Minnesota, and Illinois, and the December storm is the most snow I've ever seen fall in one storm. Of course, I'm completely missing this, so December will have to remain the record for me!

Fun! I saw the picture before I saw whose it was, and just knew it must be your place.

I'm not sure I would love living in snow (I haven't done so since I was 8), but I sure do like snow a lot, from my protected realm where I only have to be in it if I want.

Our winter, you has it.

(Seriously, we could use about a foot of that up here in Maine. I can see GRASS out the window for fluff's sake. It ain't right.)

(Okay, dead patchy brown grass and crusty ice, but still.)
